The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree program is to produce graduates with current and accurate knowledge in the public health discipline who will be strong advocates for public health, and who will help to resolve current issues in public health locally and nationally, and will promote strategies for community and individual wellness.
Program Description
The B.S. in Public Health serves students who are interested in pursuing careers in the area of public health. The program prepares students to plan, implement and evaluate public health programs and to appraise a wide variety of health and human services programs related to public health issues.
Graduates of this program will be qualified for employment in areas of both public and private health and human services agencies (city, county, state, national), hospitals, schools, corporations, and nonprofit or professional public health consulting organizations. Prerequisite for the program is to be a CSUB student in good academic standing.
The Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health curriculum includes an interdisciplinary set of specific courses designed to provide students with a foundation in Public Health and Health related fields of study. This degree is not intended for pre-medical or similar areas of pre-professional study. Students seeking a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Public Health must complete the following:

A modification to the standard GE program has been approved that allows the possibility of satisfying some GE requirements through the major:
- 5A/5C is satisfied if you completedCHEM 1000 Foundations of Chemistry and CHEM 1001 Foundations of Chemistry Laboratory.
- 5A is satisfied if you have completed CHEM 1003 Foundations of Chemistry for Healthcare Professionals.
- 5B/5C is satisfied by BIOL 1009 Perspectives in Biology.
- The units for Area 5 can range from 0-3 depending on which CHEM course the student selects.

- Subject Area 2 is satisfied by MATH 2200 Introduction to Statistical Concepts and Methods, PSYC 2018 Introduction to Statistical Methods in Psychological Research, KINE 2018 Introduction to Statistics for Health Sciences or SOC 2208 Introduction to Statistics in the Social Sciences
- Area 4 is satisfied by PSYC 1018 Explorations in Psychology.
- Upper Division Area 4UD is met by PHIL 3118 Philosophy in Literature and Film or KINE 3118 Epidemiology and Wellness.
- Upper Division Area 5 is not required.
- Upper Division Area 4UD is met by KINE 3118 Epidemiology and Wellness.
- Students are waived from UD area of their program.

Public Health majors must achieve a C- or higher in all major courses (PH 2000, PH 2020, KINE 3118, PH 3110, PH 3218, PH 3310, PH 3410, PH 3510, PH 4010, PH 4110, HCA 4250, PH 4918). If the student achieves lower than a C-, they will be required to repeat the course for graduation.
